Musicology Biography

Janna Kysilko is a doctoral student in Musicology at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, where she holds a Master's degree and has reached ABD status. She recently began work on her dissertation, tentatively titled "Body and Imagination in Music Making of Late Eighteenth-Century Vienna" and advised by Dr. Gretchen Wheelock. Thanks to the support of a Sproull Fellowship, Janna is currently conducting archival research in Vienna, examining Enlightenment texts in realms as diverse as medicine, fiction, and philosophy to see how the relationships between body, imagination, and music making were represented, particularily with respect to gender.
